Tilos, one of the smallest island of the Dodecanese lies between Kos and Rhodes. It is of a great archeological interest as remains of prehistoric elefants have been found on the island in the Charckadio caves. Such remains are unique in Greece and consequently Tilos has been dubbed the "Elefants’ Island". |

Tilos has several sandy beaches with clear blue waters accessible on foot or by vehicle. The most beautiful are Eristos, Aghios Antonios, Plaka while the bay of Livadia is particularly picturesque, if you are interested to excursions the island’s mountainous interior can offer various opportunities. | ![]() |
| The Tilos’ main town is Megalo Chorio, in the north of the island, most of its houses have been built amphitheatrically around the slopes of the hill of Aghios Stefanos. Most of the finds from the ancient burial grounds are nowadays houses in the Rhodes Museum while a bronze hydria can be seen at the British Museum. At the top of the hill are the walls of the Castle of the knights, and within its ruined interior one can see the remains of a cistern and a large church with 16th century |

wall paintings. 2,5 km west from Megalo Chorio there is the Monastry of Aghios Antonios and at 6 km north-east situated in a particularly beautiful area you will find the Monastry of Aghios Pantaleimon patron saint of the island dating back to the 18th century. Between Megalo Chorio and Livadia there is now the abandoned village of Micro Chorio; at Aghiosykia you will find a ruined medieval castle. |
